It’s hard to believe that we are more than halfway through this year! In true CTT fashion, we’ve continued pushing boundaries, seizing moments and making a difference with a productive seven months thus far.

The Khayelitsha experience

We recently launched the Khayelitsha Curated Routes Initiative (in partnership with City of Cape Town) which focuses on giving tourists the opportunity to have an authentic experience of Khayelitsha through immersive interactions with locals.

The initiative allows visitors to opt for three different experiences: Adventure, Arts & Culture and Night Life. Each experience offers a wide variety of activities including: cycling, running, planting vegetable gardens, art tours, theatre productions and enjoying authentic South African cuisine.

After months of hard work in Khayelitsha, we are incredibly proud of what we have done to promote tourism in this community and hope to do the same in a number of other neighbourhoods in the near future.

Keeping our visitors safe

We also hosted our quarterly Visitor Safety Meeting where we engaged with 40 tourism Frontline Managers and Supervisors. The CCID and SAPS were in attendance, and provided attendees with informative feedback on trends regarding visitor safety in the City.

The CCID have implemented various projects to combat crime in the CBD, including an initiative which identifies the most aggressive beggars in the area, provides them with employment and discourages them from harassing visitors for cash.  Various other safety initiatives have also been put into place, including: ATM Fraud warnings, incident mapping systems and body worn cameras to monitor security.

CTT has put together a downloadable pdf which highlights important TravelWise Tips and emergency contact numbers visitors should take note of. The Travel-Wise tips PDF can be downloaded here for you to print, display and share with your visitors.

And the award goes to… Cape Town

Cape Town continues its winning streak, claiming the number one spot as Travel + Leisure’s Top City in Africa and the Middle East for the 18th year running. What a momentous achievement! The Mother City also added another prestigious accolade to its collection, ranking 8th on Big Media 7’s Global Bucket List of Places to Visit.

Please give yourselves a pat on the back as these accolades could not have been possible without your continued effort and tremendous passion. Let’s continue to work together to rebuild positive perceptions of Cape Town as a tourism destination.
