SMMEs form the backbone of the city’s economy, making up the majority of service providers for goods and services needed for the optimal performance and functioning of the high growth sectors in Cape Town. SMMEs therefore desperately need help to remain open, support their staff and get back to business.

As part of the City’s commitment to supporting small businesses during these difficult times, we’re inviting fellow Capetonians to post a short video or image of their favourite small business via social media to share their success and resilience, using the campaign hashtags #myfavouritebusiness and #CPTPlusME.

Let’s show them some love by nominating those businesses who made a significant impact in your life and foster a culture of supporting local. Over the past few weeks, I visited some of these phenomenal businesses who have come up with innovative ways to weather these trying economic times. They are located across the city in places ranging from Mitchells Plain, Khayelitsha, Bellville, Kraaifontein, Cape Town CBD, Airport Industria and Century City.

The nominated SMMEs will form part of our CPT+U campaign, aimed at igniting a sense of pride and camaraderie amongst Capetonians to help build our economic readiness. These businesses will also stand a chance to receive a limited edition SMME COVID-19 Toolkit.

The campaign will also help garner support for small businesses during the economic lockdown. We are committed to getting Cape Town back to work safely.
